Psalm 121:1-2
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

New International Version (NIV)
Mountains or beaches?  Which do you prefer for vacation.  I’ve been to both, but given the choice, I choose mountains.  There is something majestic about the heights.  One of my brothers likes mountains so much he climbs the tallest mountains of the world.
Ancient peoples saw the mountains as the high places where they could meet with God.  Abraham, Moses and Jesus went to the mountains to pray.  Some however built their altars to false gods in the mountains.
This Psalm is one of the Psalms of the Ascents.  The people sang them on pilgrimage up to Jerusalem, a city surrounded by mountains.  The people of God knew the mountains were not gods, nor did the one true God live on just one mountain.  They lifted their eyes to the mountains and remembered that their help came not from the hills but from Him.
I just returned from a trip to the Appalachian mountains.  Looking up at Mt. Pisgah I remembered that our God is the one who made the mountains.  God made both the mountains and the people, but he cares most of all of the people.   So today if you see a mountain, or a small hill, or you find yourself in the valley, look to God.  He is our help!
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for making magnificent mountains when you formed the earth.  Thank you most of all for making us.  Please do not stop making us until we are completely conformed to the image of your perfect Son.  In the high and holy name of Jesus we pray.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
