"Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch welcomes President Obama, Gov. Malloy" - WFSB
On Sunday, Mayor Bill Finch welcomed President Barack Obama and Governor Dannel Malloy to Bridgeport for a rally held at Central High School.
During his speech Mayor Finch told the crowd, "As Mayor, it's my job is to make Bridgeport an even better city than it is today – a place where my kids, and your kids, will choose to live, work, and raise their families, too.
"That’s why I’ve been focused on boosting confidence in Bridgeport – so others will join you and me as champions of our city.
"This change is already happening – the re-opening of Pleasure Beach after years of neglect, breaking ground on Steelpointe Harbor after decades of broken promises, improving downtown, and building a second train station."
"Student entrepreneurs from Bridgeport win national competition" - News 12
Three young aspiring entrepreneurs from Bridgeport were honored by Mayor Bill Finch and the City Council on Monday evening.
The three students, Ambar Romero, Anyira Barnes, and Britney Reynolds represented southwestern Connecticut last month in the NFTE Youth Entrepreneurship National Challenge.
As part of the program, the students had to develop unique business models and even presented their ideas in California.
"Fire Truck Brings Bridgeport First Grader to School" - NBC Connecticut
A first grader from Bridgeport got the ride to school of her dreams this morning when a big red fire truck took her to Black Rock School, with lights on and sirens sounding.
Liza Powell won the trip in a raffle at school during Fire Prevention Safety Week in October and firefighters took her on a tour of the city before dropping her off.
“Our kids are our ambassadors. City firefighters visit our schools to teach about fire prevention, family safety plans and the importance of smoke detectors. Our great teachers reinforce those messages. The kids bring the safety message home to their families,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “We all know that smoke detectors save lives. And the city will install them for free in your house. All you have to do is call.”
"Steelpointe Developer Chosen for Seaview Plaza" - Connecticut Post
Bridgeport Landing Development, which is developing the long-awaited Steelpointe Harbor on the city's waterfront, has been selected for the adjacent 17-acre Seaview Plaza site, city officials said Thursday.
Seaview Plaza, once the site of a Carpenter Technology steel plant, is on Seaview Avenue across the Yellow Mill Channel from Steelpointe.
Bridgeport Landing was chosen from a handful of companies that responded to a 2012 request for proposals.
Among the stipulations for bidders on Seaview Plaza was the ability to build a full-service grocery store and pharmacy in an East End neighborhood that has long lacked such amenities. Other retail is also planned on the site.
Steelpointe Harbor is intended to be a massive mixed-use project on 52 acres below Interstate 95.
