Welcome to the second edition of VanderbiltLocal!
As the Associate Vice Chancellor for Community Relations, it is an honor for me to share a few words at the beginning of our monthly newsletters. Our office is intentionally involved in many community and local issues, so at times it may be difficult to decide what makes it into our newsletter. As stated in the inaugural edition, the goal of this newsletter is to highlight the regular impact that Vanderbilt University has in the community and beyond.
First and foremost, it brings me great pleasure to spotlight Interim Chancellor and Provost
Susan R. Wente. She has served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs since 2014 and stepped into the role of interim chancellor on August 16, 2019. In the brief video located below, the interim chancellor is described as an educator, innovator and leader by students, alumni, faculty and staff. You can follow her on Twitter for live updates:
@VU_Chancellor.
Interim Chancellor and Provost Wente also announced the lineup for the Fall 2019 Chancellor’s Lecture Series. The Chancellor’s Lecture Series strives to connect the university and the Nashville community with leaders and visionaries who are shaping our world. This year’s theme is “Culture of Respect; Culture of Caring,” which aligns with efforts across the university to support and build connections among Vanderbilt’s inclusive, cooperative community. Admission to all lectures is free, and seating is available on a first-come basis. Check out the section below to learn about the guest lecturers and logistics.
Last, and certainly not least, the Metropolitan General Runoff Election for Mayor, Metropolitan Council At-Large, and certain Metro Council Districts is scheduled for this Thursday, September 12, 2019. You can find your Election Day Voting Site here:
https://maps.nashville.gov/PollingPlaceFinder/ or call the Metro Election Commission at 615-862-8800. It is important to note that we can only shape tomorrow by voting today. GO VOTE!
Thank you for taking the time to read and have a great rest of the month.
