End of Year Key Dates and Information
Dear St. Michael’s Families,
I hope this finds each of you well as you enjoy the comfort and close company of your family at home. It is hard to believe that our 2019-20 school year is drawing to a close and summer is just around the corner. Our learning community rose to the challenge of online learning during this crisis and truly shined. Our Dragons -- teachers, students, and families alike-- have shown themselves to be creative, innovative, adaptable, flexible, and most certainly resilient. Thank you for partnering with us.
Below please find important information and updates for the end of this school year, summer camp, and beyond.
Key End of Year Dates
- May 28 (Thursday), Noon - Final All-School Virtual Chapel Dedicated to Our Class of 2020
The St M faculty have gathered all student belongings and placed them in labeled paper bags.
Due to social distancing guidelines, all families must remain in their cars and drive through the GREEN carpool loop in between Hubbard Hall and Singleton Hall. We will have tables set up alphabetically and a staff member will put each family’s items in the vehicle trunk. Families, please drive as instructed to the table with the letter that corresponds to your last name. Families will not be permitted to enter school buildings.
Note: It is acceptable if another family picks up your belongings for you.
ITEM RETURN: If you have items to return to the School (i.e. textbooks, library books, borrowed Lower School and 8th Grade Chromebooks, sports uniforms, etc.), once you have driven through the GREEN loop and picked up your family's belongings, please proceed as directed to the YELLOW loop behind the Middle School. There, you will be directed to pull up to tables and a staff member will come to your car to accept items to be returned. Families should please stay in their cars. As well, PLEASE USE MASKING TAPE OR STICKY NOTE TO LABEL ALL RETURNED ITEMS with your child's name and grade.
Class of 2020 Graduation
Separate communications have already been sent to eighth grade families regarding graduation plans, with tentative dates held aside for June 24 and July 29. The selection of any date will be made with respect to social distancing guidelines and Governor’s orders. Throughout the month of May, we have delighted in celebrating our 8th graders through words and actions.
Summer Camp
Based on mandates by Governor Northam with regards to social distancing, we have made the difficult decision to cancel in-person camps for the month of June (the weeks of June 15, 22, and 29).
That said, our camp team has worked hard to pivot and develop engaging virtual programming to meet family needs and we are excited to launch REMOTE CAMP PROGRAMMING options. Separate communications regarding our virtual summer camp plans will be sent next week. Families who registered for these sessions will receive more information about refunds or applying credits to participate in virtual offerings.
2020-21 School Year
Our plan is to start the school year in accordance with the 2020-21 key dates, with a goal of safely returning to Campus for in-person teaching and learning.
St. Michael’s administrative team, working with outside experts, is evaluating a wide range of scenarios and developing detailed plans for academics, school life, health/safety, technology, and logistics. Our plans to return to Campus will be in alignment with health and government guidelines and requirements, which may potentially include the installation of physical structures, new medical protocols, temperature checks, the necessity for masks, schedule adaptations, etc. As we work through this planning and any state mandates, we will provide additional communications and details to you throughout the summer.
Once again, we are grateful for all of your hard work, enthusiasm, support, and flexibility.
St. Michael’s truly is a special community. We will continue to stay in communication with you in the weeks and months ahead. Stay well!
Warm regards,
Bob Gregg
Head of School
