On Friday, November 15, 2024, the Department of Campus Safety received a report of a robbery that took place at approximately 5:45 p.m. on the south side of Washington Square Park in Manhattan.
The victim, an NYU student, was walking through the park when they were approached by a male-presenting individual in Washington Square Park. The suspect asked the student for money and the student indicated they did not have any. The suspect asked the student to prove it and the student showed their jacket pockets, which included their wallet. The suspect reached into the student's pocket to get the wallet and a struggle took place. The student regained possession of their wallet, but the suspect slapped it out of their hand to the ground. The suspect picked up the wallet and ran.
The student reported no physical injuries and was offered supportive resources. The student declined to report to NYPD.
Description of Suspect: The student reports the suspect is a male-presenting individual, standing 6'2" with a muscular build. The suspect has a light complexion and a stubble beard. The suspect was wearing green pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and a brown jacket.
