When you ask Grace what she is most excited for at camp this summer, she says, “I can’t wait to become the counselor that I once looked up to when I attended camp.”
Grace has been a part of our South Shore YMCA Camp Gordon Clark family since 2014. During her first year, she participated in both ArtsCamp and traditional Y day camps. Every year to follow it was a no-brainer that Grace would return to Camp Gordon Clark, and she discovered that ArtsCamp was her favorite. In “Explore the Arts” week, she discovered her passion for the arts, which inspired her to do several plays. Grace is now involved with theater and arts programs outside of camp thanks to her ArtsCamp experience.
For the past two summers, Grace has been an ArtsCamp Leader in Training, or LIT. The LIT program gives older campers hands-on leadership experience, assisting our camp counselors with a group of younger campers. Participants develop and hone their leadership skills, build confidence, and show responsibility as a role model. Grace is a natural leader and has flourished in our LIT program, bringing her passion for the arts and camp together while encouraging younger campers to find their own passions within ArtsCamp. She makes ArtsCamp a fun place for all the campers and counselors involved.
This summer Grace is joining our Camp Gordon Clark staff as an official Camp Counselor. “It’s so exciting to become a camp counselor,” says Grace, “My camp counselors taught me so much over the years and helped me find my love for theater. I can’t wait to do the same for my own campers and help them find new passions.”
Camp Gordon Clark is a special place, and leaders like Grace make our camp community stronger. We can’t wait for another great camp season for happy campers.
