Today we kick off the Mayor’s Cup Challenge, a friendly competition between rivals Walsh University and Malone University to rally the most individual donors between today and January 12 in support of our athletic program comprised of more than 700 scholar athletes. The winning school will be announced on January 12 during the Mayor’s Cup basketball game between Walsh and Malone. President Collins has a special challenge for our employees to help meet our goal! The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred, and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. Join Walsh University as we stand united and celebrate the dignity of every human life. Human Dignity Week is a celebration of the gift of life and the inherent dignity of every human being. The campus community will observe this week Jan. 15-21 with guest speakers, service projects and participation in the March for Life in Washington, D.C. View a full schedule of events here. The Byer’s School of Nursing is hosting a Mental health First Aid training to prepare faculty, students and staff to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The training will teach you to assess the risk of suicide or harm, listen nonjudgmentally, give reassurance and information, encourage appropriate professional help, self-help, and other support strategies. Finally, you’ll be equipped with crisis numbers and local mental health providers in the event you need to refer others. For the fifth consecutive year, Walsh University has been named a finalist for the 2023 Division II Award of Excellence for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Walsh received this honor for their exemplary student-athlete leadership initiatives. Each active Division II school and conference is eligible to submit its best community engagement activity and/or event that promotes student-athletes giving back and serving as leaders within their communities. This year, 41 entries were submitted. The winner, runner-up and third-place honoree for the 2023 Division II Award of Excellence will be announced on January 14. Over the course of the past Spring and Fall, Walsh University student-athletes have been immersed in their efforts to build a partnership with the students and staff at Frazer Elementary and the Plain Local School District through their Fierce Females program and through Walsh’s Athletes with Action initiative to make weekly impacts on the youth in our community. Read More
