Consul General Shiga visits OBON Society
On Tuesday, June 28, Consul General Masaki Shiga visited Astoria for another detailed briefing on the activities of the OBON Society, a non-profit humanitarian effort that helps provide reconciliation and healing through the return of personal items, such as the Yosegaki-Hinomaru, or Japanese flag, that belonged to war dead to their families. We are grateful to OBON Society and appreciate their extraordinary efforts and accomplishments.

The World Beat Festival!
The last weekend in June we participated in the 25th World Beat Festival held in Salem. Our office had an origami workshop and many people enjoyed it. Consul General Masaki Shiga had the honor of performing with Koto player Ms. Masumi Timson. Thank you for stopping by during the summer heat.

A Japan/Portland Collaboration Beer Festival “Fuji to Hood”
On July 16, 17 breweries, one cidery, and one distillery from Japan will collaborate with 19 of Portland's finest breweries, cidermakers and distiller for a beer festival. The event will also feature Japanese cuisine and Japanese-inspired music. Please see the link here.

The Japan World Exposition 1970 Commemorative Fund (JEC Fund)
The KANSAI OSAKA 21st Century Association will be accepting applications for the 2023 Fiscal Year Japan World Exposition 1970 Commemorative Fund. The JEC Fund supports various projects such as international academic and educational projects as well as international goodwill activities by domestic and international organizations with the revenue from the Japan World Exposition 1970.
