Announcing Requests for Proposals for Addressing Antisemitism
In response to growing antisemitism in our community and across the country, Federation is launching a Request for Proposals (RFP) for new and innovative programs that reduce the prevalence of antisemitic activity and build the capacity for teenagers to respond to incidents of antisemitism. Please share this with your networks and any organizations that may have relevant programs and initiatives. Proposals are due by March 1, 2024. To request the RFP, please contact Elisa at AntisemitismRFP@shalomdc.org.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY OF SERVICE
|
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage volunteering and civic engagement. Join Federation partners across Greater Washington for opportunities to make a difference for our community and honor Dr. King’s legacy. Together, we can act as a force for good in the world.

| MLK Shabbat: Visions of Freedom and Justice
Join Sixth & I for a special Shabbat commemorating the spirit and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. The service will feature soul-lifting music from Covenant Baptist Church’s choir and Sixth & I musicians, plus words of inspiration from interfaith partners and community leaders working to eradicate racism, antisemitism, and all forms of discrimination.

| MLK Day of Service with Washington Hebrew Congregation
Make your day off from work and school a “day on” for tikkun olam (repairing the world) with Washington Hebrew Congregation. Choose from a variety of on-site projects to help provide much-needed items and support to people across Greater Washington.

| MLK Family Mitzvah Day
Join Federation partner, Edlavitch DCJCC, and PJ Library of Greater Washington for a morning of volunteer projects, story time, and advocacy to help community members around the DC area who are experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and other challenges. Activities will include food packaging, making cards, packing toiletries, and more. Intended for children ages 5+, but everyone is welcome.

| Gather at the Qatari Embassy to Bring the Hostages Home
Qatar has helped to successfully mediate the release of more than 100 Israeli hostages, but this is not enough. Join Federation partner, the Jewish Community Relations Council, at the Qatari Embassy to press Qatar to demand Hamas immediately release over 130 hostages still being held in Gaza. We want them home now.
