Summer registration impacts financial aid
Advisor Kalyn Williams
Kalyn Wiliams, Advisor and Outreach Specialist
Summer courses present some unique opportunities for students to complete their coursework, but also differ slightly from the fall and spring registration process. To highlight some of the benefits and some things to be aware of, we sat down with Kalyn Williams, BSCJ Advisor and MSCJ Associate Outreach Specialist at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Williams also serves as the Distance Learning Center’s liaison between the Financial Aid Office and the advising team.

Independent study project focused on benefitting at-risk youth
MSCJ student Laura Clark
MSCJ Student, Laura Clark
“I didn’t want to spend an entire semester writing a paper or doing a research project. I wanted to try to make it something that was a little more hands-on.” Laura Clark decided to make her project one that would benefit a non-profit program for at-risk teens that she had encountered through her previous employer. The program, Teen Care, works primarily with youth who have run away from home.
Thank you for a successful March Matchness

This spring, the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center partnered with the Distance Education Alumni Board for the second annual March Matchness campaign. This annual fundraising event encourages donors to seek company matches from their employers, doubling their gift to the university. The money raised will be used to fund student scholarships and future program development. Holly Voll, Development Specialist for the DLC, coordinated many of the efforts through Facebook and close collaboration with alumni board members.

A whimsical choice changes the course of alumna's career
Lisa Cousins, MSCJ Alumna
In 1998, Lisa Cousins was pursuing her master’s degree at night at a local university. The traditional schedule was difficult to manage with a full-time job, so Cousins began investigating online graduate programs and found the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program at UW-Platteville. When she saw the contact information for Dr. Cheryl Banachowski-Fuller, she was slightly taken aback to see ‘banachoc@uwplatt.edu’ as the email address.
