Unique Service Camp Connects Elders & Teens

Our Generation Connect service camp held last month at A.G. Rhodes Atlanta was a big hit! Offered in partnership with Pebbletossers—a youth development nonprofit organization—the week-long camp gave elders and teens a unique opportunity to build and strengthen connections between their generations.
Below are just a few of the meaingful (and fun!) activities throughout the week. You can also listen to this podcast episode where some of the teens and residents did a live interview about their experience.

Connection Through Understanding:

Teens gained a greater appreciation of aging-related issues, they conducted oral histories with elders to learn more about their pasts, and teens and elders bonded during various activities.
Gearing up for the Virtual Dementia Tour
Bingo
Horticultural Therapy
Mural painting for the new Dialysis Clinic
Mercedes-Benz Stadium tour
Teens gained leadership skills while earning service hours

Social Media Presentation & Competition:

Elders and teens participated in a social media presentation and they were challenged to make videos about what they enjoyed most from the week to share on social media. While all of the videos were great, one received the most likes and was designated as the winner. Click on the pictures to take a look!
Thank you to Hospice Atlanta for sponsoring this year's Generation Connect service camp.
A.G. Rhodes Participates in National Movement to Improve Nursing Homes
Several representatives from A.G. Rhodes are among more than 120 stakeholders and organizations that are part of a national movement—called the Moving Forward Coalition—to improve the quality of nursing home life for residents and staff across the United States.
A.G. Rhodes Human Resources Executive Assistant Charelle Barber serves on the Coalition’s Person-Centeredness, Culture Change, Care Planning & Quality of Life Committee, and she says the Coalition’s efforts demonstrate a serious commitment to address challenges that nursing homes have faced for years. She says she’s proud to represent nursing homes across the country and advocate on their behalf.
“Almost all nursing homes are facing the same challenges. So, I’m not just here for A.G. Rhodes, I’m here for all of us.”

Farewell to a Longtime Friend
We are heavyhearted by the passing of a longtime friend of A.G. Rhodes, Jerry Patton. Jerry worked at A.G. Rhodes for many years before leaving in 2016 to run his own nursing home in Cumming, GA. Jerry was a well-known and well-respected leader in long-term care.
"Jerry always kept focus on the greater good for residents and the staff that cared for them," said A.G. Rhodes CEO Deke Cateau. "He took to heart an important credo that, ‘If you take good care of your staff they, in turn, will take good care of your residents’. They were not just words to him; they were his North Star."
