| Why Do We Do What We Do?
This is the time of year where we hold Open Houses for parents who are interested in applying to Elysian. Part of my role is to talk about Elysian’s philosophy and approach to education. To that end I discuss key precepts of progressive education and how those characteristics are carried out at Elysian. I thought that I would share a few of the slides that I use. Charters are granted because they provide a unique vision of how children learn as well as the ability of the orgaizing group to govern and manage the school. For close to twenty years Elysian has been carrying out that vision, with huge success.

At 1:30 PM, everyone gathers to watch the 3rd grade demonstrate what they learned in their African Dance Residency! Afterwards - have a piece of KUUMBA cake!

Daring acrobats, jubilant dancers and mind-bending contortionists fill the New Victory stage when the sensational Drama Desk-nominated Circus der Sinne (Mother Africa, New Vic 2013) returns to NYC with electrifying live music and feats of extraordinary strength and dazzling skill. With performers representing African nations from Tanzania, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, to South Africa and Ivory Coast, this radiantly rhythmic production exudes a palpable zest for life that will have the whole family on the edge of their seats—or, better yet, dancing in the aisles! Trivia Night Fundraiser Update Thank you so much to everyone for your support! We now have only six tickets left. (Yay!) But if you’re interested, the tickets are only available to purchase one or two at a time due to the way the teams are set up now. In other words, six people could not buy tickets to be on the same team now, BUT you can buy one or two tickets separately to be placed on pre-existing teams of four. (See link below.) We need to finalize the teams by early Tuesday, so the last chance to buy tickets, if they haven’t sold out already, is 12 pm tomorrow. No tickets can be sold at the door since we need to have teams ahead of time. If you already bought tickets, and you can’t make it on Wednesday, please email friends@ecsnj.org to let us know. However, if tickets do sell out and you'd like to buy one, you can also email us to be put on the wait list. Many thanks again!

Sibling Applications for Kindergarten 2017-2018 are due for Elysian Family Sibling Preference
The Deadline for ALL Applications is January 9th at 5:00 PM. If you have a child at Elysian already, and you are planning to enroll a sibling in the 2017-18 school year, please complete an application form and return it to Susan Gilbertson in the office. You can find the form on Elysian's website, ecsnj.org, or stop by the office to pick it up. We must have an application on file before the January 11th Lottery in order for you to receive sibling preference.
