Pride Month – LGBTQIAP+ Inclusion and Celebration
Pride Month is a time to honor and support LGBTQIAP+ individuals and communities—by celebrating identity, reflecting on barriers to inclusion, and fostering a sense of belonging. Whether you identify as part of the community or as an ally, this month offers an opportunity to learn, connect, and show support.
GW today provides an extensive list of activities during the 2025 Pride Month.
To explore more about LGBTQIA+ history and identities, the LGBTQIA+ History Timeline from GLSEN offer a great starting point. Capital Pride Festival has many activities during June, 2025. You can also connect with The Trevor Project which provides support for LGBTQ+ youth.
You can further deepen your understanding by listening to voices from within the community. For example, "Making Gay History" features firsthand accounts from LGBTQ+ individuals, and "Queery" with Cameron Esposito hosts insightful conversations with LGBTQ+ creators and thinkers.
Juneteenth – A Day of Remembrance and Joy
June 19, 2025, marks 160 years since the delayed enforcement of emancipation reached the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth honors this turning point in American history and continues to spotlight the Black experience—past, present, and future.
To learn more, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture offers a Juneteenth Digital Toolkit, and provides historical and cultural insight. In the DC area, celebrations will include the DC Juneteenth Freedom Festival on June 15–16, 2025.
If you prefer to engage through storytelling and film, consider watching "High on the Hog", a documentary series exploring Black culinary history in America, or “Miss Juneteenth”, a film about Black motherhood and legacy.
This June, let’s celebrate with joy and find connection through reflection. Let’s keep learning and continue our journey in building a more inclusive community.
Warmly,
