On Friday morning, Mayor Bill Finch joined State Rep. Don Clemons, Board of Education member Andre Baker, Bridgeport City Council member Eneida Martinez-Walker, Director of the Office Anti-Blight Christopher Rosario, and Bishop Richardo Griffith, President of the East End NRZ, members of the Bridgeport Police department and the Bridgeport Wildlife Guards for a press conference celebrating more than 13,500 people who have visited Pleasure Beach since re-opening on June 28.
“This is incredible news for our city,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. “After being closed for nearly 20 years, we’re thrilled to be able to bring folks out to Pleasure Beach. It’s a critical piece of Bridgeport’s history, but more importantly, it’s proof that we’re making smart investments in the future. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.”

"Mayor Finch participates in U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Cities of Opportunities Task Force Meeting at Gracie Mansion in New York City" - CT Post (Blog)

Mayor Bill Finch signs a pledge to fight income inequality at a U.S. Conference of Mayors task force meeting held in New York City on Monday.
Mayor Bill Finch joined more than 30 mayors from cities across the country on Monday to participate in the inaugural meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Cities of Opportunity Task Force at Gracie Mansion in New York City. The Task Force, led by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, was established at the Conference’s Annual Meeting in June to identify strategies for addressing income inequality, promoting economic mobility and creating jobs in America’s cities.
According to the report released by the U.S. Conference of Mayors this week, over the last four decades, wage increases have been disproportionately captured by those in higher income brackets, and the trend does not appear to be changing.
Mayor Finch signed a pledge to support one of several ways, including raising the minimum wage, to potentially change the course of the income inequality.
Mayor Finch, who joined fellow mayors in signing a pledge of action on wage inequality, told the Connecticut Post that Bridgeport is focusing on job growth and access to pre-kindergarten slots to battle the growing inequality.
"If we don't have our kids in high quality preschools so they can compete, they're always playing catch-up," Finch said, noting that only about 65 percent of Bridgeport children attend preschool. "That I think is our highest priority out of the pledge."

"Committed to engagement"– CT Post

Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr. authored an Op-Ed for the Connecticut Post regarding the community engagement of the police department.
As they do every day, our community police officers are walking their beats, pedaling their bikes and riding Segways throughout our downtown. They are part of the fabric of our community, stopping in to visit merchants and talking with the folks that live and work downtown.
In the East End, our officers walk the beat on East Main Street and ride up and down the Stratford Avenue corridor. Connections like this happen in every neighborhood. Our officers have hosted fishing derbies and given out free bikes to kids who need them.
