St. Luker James "Jim" Wright passed away on October 19. Jim and his devoted wife Delores have been partners here at St. Luke's since 1983. Jim was a faithful member of our former 8:00 a.m. worship service and loved everyone he met. A service was held for Jim on October 28.
St. Luker Jeanne Trowell passed away on October 4. Jeanne has been a partner here at St. Luke's since 1995. She was very involved with what is now our St. Luke’s Marketplace. A private family service was held for Jeanne after her passing.
St. Luke's staff celebrated expectant parents David and Laura Lorenz with a baby shower in the pumpkin patch. Laura is the marketing coordinator here at St. Luke's. They are due to have their little pumpkin very soon. Congratulations!
Congratulations to Olympia High School’s “Teacher of the Year,” Titan Market faculty advisor, Mrs. Jaime Clancy! The mission team has worked closely with Mrs.Clancy and her business education students for the past two years. The Titan Market is open to all students three days a week for afternoon snacks and/or for picking up ingredients needed to prepare their family’s evening meal. We are very excited to be working with her and the students again this year. Great job Mrs. Clancy, TEACHER OF THE YEAR at Olympia High School!
Congratulations to Maxey Elementary School who was selected as an ECTAC Exceeding Expectations School. This is a prestigious award based on student performance data. Out of 1600 Title I Schools in the State of Florida, only 26 made the selection. Qualifying schools had to reach 100% in every category and Maxey excelled in every area.
On October 5 members of the ECTAC team visited Maxey Elementary to see and hear the wonderful things teachers and administrators do to make Maxey a special place. As part of the visit, parents, teachers, staff, and community members were invited to share what makes Maxey Elementary thrive as a Title I School. St. Luke’s was honored to represent the community at this meeting.
St. Luke's has been a mission partner with the Inside Out Jail Ministry (ISO) for many years. St. Luker Salley Martin was honored to accept a certificate of appreciation on behalf of St. Luke's at a recent benefit dinner. The United Methodist Women have also been strong supporters of the jail ministry. Their representatives, Karen Brown and Rosemary Gates were also presented with a certificate of appreciation for their generous donations. ISO prepares incarcerated men and women, upon their release, to successfully transition back into the community. To learn more about ISO, visit www.ISOJM.org. Or contact Amy Winslow for more information and to learn about volunteer opportunities.
