Acts 27: 13 - 14
13 When a gentle south wind began to blow, they saw their opportunity; so they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete. 14 Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the Northeaster, swept down from the island.

New International Version (NIV)
Where do they get the names for the hurricanes each year? So far, my name hasn’t come up. There is sometimes a calm before the storm. When the eye of the hurricane goes over, we often get a glimpse of blue skies. Here is a question for your Monday:  are you in the calm or the storm? Where are you?

As Paul and his companions tried to make it to Rome, they encountered a calm south wind. The ship’s pilot saw this as their chance to sail again. But before long, a hurricane wind called the Northeaster came across Crete and caught the ship. Unable to resist it, the ship went with the wind. It sounds frightening!

Sooner or later, we will face a storm with our names on it. How do we prepare? If you are presently in the calm, give thanks. And if you are in the storm right now, trust that the wind of God will carry you through. Paul was in the will of God and still encountered a storm. So may we. But God is still with us, even in the storm. Trust him.  Storms are all temporary. Our God is eternal. And he never leaves us.

Pray with me:
Father, you are Lord over the whole earth. Today, for those who are in a storm, I pray that your sustaining presence and promises will carry them along. For those who are in a calm, I pray that this may be a time of preparation as we trust you to protect us. We need you Lord. Oh we need you. All of our strength is in you. Thank you for promising to bring us safely home, into your presence. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals are in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
