The times they are a changing ...

By Ann Seacrest, RN, IBCLC, Executive Director of MilkWorks
As America inaugurates its 45th President, our country is bracing itself for change. New trade agreements? Fewer environmental controls? A wall across our southern border?
What about the Affordable Care Act (ACA)?  Will it change? If so, how quickly and in what ways?
For years, MilkWorks dreamed of insurance coverage for breastfeeding support and breast pumps. Once it arrived as part of the ACA's Women’s Preventive Services, it was much more difficult to implement than we thought. Now that it is here, can we truly go backwards and lose coverage of breast pumps and lactation consultations?
Two stories I heard over the holidays reassure me that we have come too far in restoring support for breastfeeding to ever go back ...

News from USBC

Help preserve breastfeeding support as part of the Affordable Care Act! Have you received breastfeeding benefits (breast pump, consultations, classes, etc.) through your private insurance? Share your story with the United States Breastfeeding Committee today!
Although breast milk is an approved liquid to carry through TSA security check points at airports, many women report being the victims of inconsistent implementation of security regulations. Read more about the new BABES Act awaiting the President’s signature.

Nebraska's New Medicaid Managed Care Plans

The state of Nebraska is unrolling the new Heritage Health Medicaid plans as of January 1, 2017. All families will select, or be assigned, a plan. Two new plans - WellCare of Nebraska and Nebraska Total Care - will join United HealthCare Community Plan. MilkWorks (Lincoln and Omaha) is in-network with all three plans as a provider of Medical Need (Hospital Grade Rental) breast pumps. However, as of January 1, we are not a Personal Use Pump provider for WellCare and NE Total Care. We are working on this and hope to provide an update soon regarding the availability of Personal Use Pumps for these two plans. Please read for more information.

Feeling the Love

Thank you for celebrating our 15th birthday with us this year! Your donations continue to make a world of difference for families without private insurance or any other means to pay for breastfeeding help. To make a tax deductible donation, please visit our website.

Thank You Kaye!

Kaye Lidolph, one of MilkWorks founders, is retiring at the end of 2016. Kaye has been a leader in maternal child health since her early days as a Labor and Delivery nurse at St. Es. Her wisdom and her passion for supporting breastfeeding families has guided MilkWorks since we opened our doors in 2001. Kaye paved the way for insurance reimbursement for breastfeeding support and breast pumps and will be missed by our staff, our board and our clients. MilkWorks is incredibly grateful for all that Kaye has done for breastfeeding in our community throughout her career.
MilkWorks will never be the same without you, Kaye. Thank you for your incredible contribution to Lincoln's community of breastfeeding support!
