July 14, 2022
Hello, friends
I had hoped to write to you in July with a leisurely, chatty newsletter filled with introductions to our new DFPA colleagues, fall enrollment updates, and opportunities for reflection and professional development.  Instead, I find myself writing again from a place of reaction, of response to national events and to the state of the world.  This month alone we’ve seen the revocation of individual freedoms by a conservative court, with promise of more to come.  We’ve seen epidemic level gun violence erupt frequently and ubiquitously in all manner of locations.  And the war in Ukraine continues.  It kind of makes our anticipated period of summer refreshment much less enjoyable or relaxing.
But there is a lot of positive news to report—Fall enrollments are high, the DFPA has successfully led two major European trips already this summer in Dance (led by Amy Wilkinson) and Theatre (led by April Browning), and new faculty searches are underway in Dance, Visual Communications and Music.  We are currently preparing an itinerary for the visit of external assessors for our DFPA Academic Program Review, which will occur on September 15-16.  Last weekend’s EcoVoice festival (led by Kirsten Hedegaard) was a beautiful event, and deserving of congratulations to all involved.
As we round the bases this summer and head for home during the month of August, please try to carve out some peaceful reflection for yourselves and time with family and friends.  As we prepare for the onslaught of AY 22-23, let’s do so reflectively, compassionately and sustainably—with a spirit of healing from the collective trauma we’ve endured over the past two years.
Enjoy the remainder of July.
DFPA Goings-On
Finally: Conversion from Digital Measures/Watermark to Interfolio Faculty 180
In July 2021, the Office of Faculty Affairs and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness announced the transition from the Digital Measures/Watermark faculty activity system to Interfolio Faculty 180. This transition occurred July 1, 2022 for all faculty who had previously used the Digital Measures/Watermark system (accessed within LOCUS.) These faculty should be able to access their profiles in Interfolio Faculty 180 at this time.  Faculty should look for more information from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness as the platform is live and accessible.
As part of the F180 roll out, faculty can expect increased functionality within Interfolio’s Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) module, already in use at Loyola for tenure and promotion reviews.  The RPT and F180 modules will be linked and accessible through a single sign-on. Faculty undergoing an annual evaluation will update their activity entries in F180, generate a preview of their annual evaluation report/CV in RPT, revise their F180 data as needed, attach unit-specific materials, and then submit the evaluation forms directly to reviewers through RPT.
Faculty who previously used Digital Measures/Watermark will be trained in July and August, via ZOOM.
A Reminder Regarding Sakai Courses
Loyola has a regular practice in place of deleting Sakai course sites that are older than two years at the conclusion of each spring semester. This clean-up process helps to keep the Sakai system running at optimal performance and avoids incremental costs for content that is no longer used. A permanent record of final grades is maintained in LOCUS. The next course deletion cycle will occur on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 8:00am CT. It will include the following academic terms:

- Spring 2019 [1192]
- Summer 2019 [1194]
- Fall 2019 [1196]
- Winter 2019-2020 [1198]
- J-Term 2020 [1201]

Spring 2020 [1202] course sites and newer will be retained. We ask that you please take time to review your older courses and keep what may have future value. There are several methods you can use to download and save a local copy of course content. For step-by-step instructions, visit Sakai Retention Policies.

Fall 2022 Course Materials
Make sure to submit last minute textbook requirements for your courses, they are not automatically readopted! You can do this by selecting your course site in Sakai, and going to the Follett Discover link to adopt using the search bar. Access and Resources
Campus Operations
Loyola's Return to Campus and COVID-19 websites have now been merged to form the Health, Safety, and Well-Being Update website. This site contains all up-to-date information on required health and safety practices for anyone on our campuses as well as resources for students, faculty, and staff.
COVID-19 Testing
Regular testing can help minimize the spread of COVID-19 and help keep one another safe. If you have not signed up for Loyola’s free surveillance testing program, please visit the On-Campus Testing web page to register and schedule a test.

Summer Hours
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Wednesday: 6 a.m.–9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Closed
Summer Building Access
During the summer, regular building hours are reduced:
Mon.-Sat. | 7:00am – 6:00pm
Sun. | 9:00am – 6:00pm
Unless there are specific University-supported events scheduled, all academic buildings generally lock around 6:00pm during the summer. If there are any events running later than 6:00pm, the building stays open for that event. Exterior doors may be locked during building hours over the summer months, but faculty, staff, and eligible students can swipe into buildings using their Loyola IDs.
