Hi Neighbor!

Did your parents used to dupe you into behaving with a little white lie? “Don’t sit too close to the television or you'll ruin your eyes,” or, this ridiculous one from my husband's Italian grandma—“don’t wear your rubber ‘galoshes’ in the house or you'll go blind.”
Eventually we all grow up and figure out the truth. Everyone except me. When I was little, my dad told me we couldn’t go on those coin operated horse rides because they were dangerous and you could get electrocuted. Remember those? The ones that looked like horses from a merry-go-round and revolved for a couple minutes for .25 cents? They were outside of every supermarket. And unlike these lucky kids, my sister and I were never allowed to go on them.
Fast forward 25 years...me, my husband Nick, and his 3 year old nephew are walking by one of those rides. He asks his nephew if he would like to go for a ride on the horse and I pipe right up, “NO! They’re dangerous! He could get electrocuted!”  Nick bursts into laughter. “What are you talking about? They all have GFIs, Ground Fault Interrupters that will shut off the ride automatically. They’re totally safe!”
As the accuracy of what he is saying sinks in, I realize…MY DAD LIED!! And that lie enabled us to glide past those “dangerous machines” time and time again with no begging, no pleading and no money spent. To this day, whenever I pass one of those rides, I resentfully wish I could go for a ride. Sadly, my butt won’t fit in the saddle.
What’s the most ridiculous lie your parents ever told you? Share it with us on our MainLineNeighbors.com Facebook, Instagram (@mainlineneighbors) or Twitter (@MLNeighbors) page. In the meantime, here’s a few entertaining ones
We are off next week for the July 4th holiday and will be back on July 7th. Have a safe and Happy 4th!
