Find your inspiration in Brevard this season
For many years, Brevard and Transylvania County have been celebrated as one of the most beautiful places in the South. The high mountain peaks, lush forests, winding scenic byways, 250 waterfalls and picturesque small town at the center have long enticed adventurers and sightseers alike to enjoy its wonders.

Brevard and its natural beauty have also inspired the rich assortment of fine artists and craftspeople who have called the community home. Today, Brevard has a bustling gallery and studio scene with creators working across a diversity of mediums. Traditional Appalachian crafts, including pottery and woodworking, thrive alongside glassblowers, metalworkers, painters, muralists, street artists, and, in one notable example, a celebrated sculptor of avant-garde skateboards.

Any trip in and around Brevard will uncover a host of studios, galleries and specialty shops displaying a wealth of local talent. The Transylvania Community Arts Council can be a good resource for art happenings. Local arts and crafts guilds also host regular shows and festivals as well.

Some of the best art experiences in Transylvania County are simply the result of a casual wander. An afternoon spent browsing in downtown Brevard, the Lumberyard District, Cedar Mountain or Toxaway will give art aficionados ample opportunity to explore a wide variety of original work to admire.  And wildlife fans shouldn’t miss the downtown Sculpture Tour, which features twenty indigenous creatures, gorgeously rendered by local artists.

Best of all, there is no better way to celebrate a beautiful place than by engaging with the wonderful talent and beautiful objects made by the people who live there. Transylvania County offers visitors many opportunities not just to observe, but to create or purchase one-of-a-kind treasures that allow them to share in the rich tapestry of Transylvania’s local arts and cultural heritage.
