On Friday, November 8, 2024, at 12:46 p.m., the Department of Campus Safety received a report of an aggravated assault that occurred on November 7 at approximately 11:30 p.m., in front of 11 Waverly Place, in Manhattan.
The complainant, an NYU alumnus, was exiting Josie Woods Pub onto Waverly Place with a friend, when two unknown individuals approached the victim and began what was seemingly a friendly interaction. However, one of the unknown individuals abruptly and without warning began screaming vulgarities and then physically attacked the victim. The suspect punched the victim approximately six times. As the victim attempted to shield themselves, the suspect struck approximately five more times and the victim was knocked to the ground. The suspect then put the victim in a headlock. A passerby intervened, and both of the unknown individuals fled west on Waverly Place.
As a result of the assault, the victim suffered a broken nose, bruised eye, and a laceration of their left eyebrow. The NYPD and EMS responded to the scene and the victim was transported to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
Description of Suspect: The suspect was described as male-presenting with a light complexion, approximately 5'7" with dark hair. The victim described the suspect's race/ethnicity as white, wearing a white t-shirt and black jeans.
