SBCC's 2019-2020 School Year Begins!

Students interested in joining instructor Blake Barron's Biology Club filled the Bio Lab during the first week of classes. 

Fall semester off to rousing start

SBCC's Main, Schott and Wake campuses welcomed new and returning students on Aug. 26 for a Fall semester full of learning opportunities. 
Wrote interim superintendent/ president Dr. Helen Benjamin in a letter to SBCC staff and faculty, "I walked around campus on the first day of classes and spent time talking with students. They love it here. That is because of you!... You continue to focus on our reason for being—students. Thank you for maintaining that focus."

SBCC Bands, Michael McDonald dazzle with an evening of music (The Channels)

SBCC bands collaborated with rock legend Michael McDonald to deliver an evening of jazz, rock and soul for a benefit concert to raise funds for City College’s music department.
While he is world-renowned for his work with The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and Aretha Franklin, McDonald is also known for his generosity and kindness. Read More..

SBCC and Girls Inc. open young eyes to STEM careers

For the third consecutive year SBCC partnered with Girls Inc. to bring three groups of local young women to the college over the summer. Both pre-teen and teen-aged girls attended the program, which included campus tours and classes in chemistry, physics, math, computer science, biology and computer information systems. The groups were also introduced to current SBCC students, and visited classes in session. Read the SB Family & Life story...

SBCC's ASL Immersion Weekend a big success 

During one weekend every summer, students from all over the state of California come to Santa Barbara City College to participate in the American Sign Language (ASL) Summer Immersion Institute. Read the Noozhawk story.

Study Abroad students at OSCE

Over the summer, a group of SBCC students and professor Manoutchehr Eskandari-Qajar visited the Hofburg Conference Center in Vienna, Austria, where the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) meets weekly. They also met with USOSCE Public Affairs Counselor Elaine Paplos, who presented an overview of the U.S. Mission to the OSCE and discussed U.S. engagement in the organization.

SBCC students awarded ACCENT Community College Scholarships

Three Santa Barbara City College students have received scholarship awards to support their study abroad experiences in Paris and Rome this fall. Throughout their time overseas, they will serve as community college student ambassadors, sharing articles about their time studying abroad. We look forward to reading about their many experiences in Europe.

For the remainder of 2019 the SBCC Board of Trustees will meet on the second Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. in room A211 on main campus:

  • Nov. 14
  • Dec. 12
