Faculty Support for Florida PIRG at UCF’s 100% Campaign — Message from Quinton Curry
| |
Florida PIRG (Public Interest Research Group) Students is a student action and training program that is active on more than 100 campuses across the country, from the University of Central Florida to the University of Wisconsin, to Columbia.
This semester we are working towards committing our campus to 100% renewable energy by 2040. Here in Florida, we’re seeing the impacts of it too from stronger storms to sunny day flooding throughout the state, and record-setting heat year after year. Everything that makes our state so amazing is at risk because of climate change. But we can do something about it. We know, more than any other generation, that we need to transition away from fossil fuels and repower our communities with clean, safe, renewable energy like wind and solar. That’s why we’re calling on our campus to commit to 100% renewable energy by 2040.
We know this is a big goal, but we think it’s something we can accomplish. We have the support of the Student Government, who passed a resolution in favor of this goal, but we know we need faculty on our side. So far, we have secured nine faculty sign-on, including Dr. Vazquez, Dr. Jacques, Dr. Fenton, Dr. Bledsoe, and the Rosen College Department.
We are asking you, as faculty members, to sign on to our campaign to show the university that this move is what students, student groups, and faculty members want.
Here is the link for faculty members to sign on to the campaign! https://actionnetwork.org/forms/ucf-100-renewable-energy-sign-on
If you have any questions, please reach out to our Vice President and 100% Campaign Coordinator Ámbar Reyes Pérez at azreyesperez@knights.ucf.edu!
