2023 President’s Celebration
This Sunday, we celebrated an excellent year of leadership under President Dr. Valerie Briones-Pryor and Board Chair Dr. Brian Sosnin, while also welcoming Dr. Patricia Purcell as the incoming GLMS President. The GLMS Foundation also made a generous $100,000 donation to the Kentucky Science Center, where the event was held, for their new exhibit, Uniquely Human. This year, Dr. Purcell wants to focus on empowering and uplifting you, our members, and moving us all from “I think I can…” to “I know I can!” For a full event recap and her goals for this upcoming year, check out upcoming issues of Louisville Medicine.

Dr. Who
Known for his out of the box solutions, Dr. Terry Cohen is somewhat of a “baby whisperer” in neonatology. After finishing his training in Cincinnati, Dr. Cohen returned home to Louisville, now practicing with Norton Children’s Neonatology. He tries to find common ground with his patient’s parents, to show them that even while their baby is in the often-intimidating NICU, the providers are “regular people” just like them, instilling trust. Read more about his journey to where he is today in this month’s Dr. Who.

Louisville Medicine upcoming themes:
August (due 7/1) – Paying it Forward – How have you helped someone else? How have you made a difference in someone else being successful? Directly or indirectly? Advocacy work? Teaching students? A role in GLMS or other membership organization?
September (due 8/1) – What Makes You Happy? – Knowing that positive relationships keep us happier, what healthy life practices make you happy? Is it helping others? Advocacy? A favorite hobby? What do you enjoy?
October (due 9/1) – A Day in the Life – This time of year, we often think of dressing up in costumes and for a moment we get to be someone else. If you could be anyone else or dress up as someone else…who would that be and why? What would you do with one day in their shoes? Bonus: submit photos of your favorite/most creative Halloween costumes from over the years
To see a full list of upcoming themes including November 2023 – April 2024, check out the May issue of Louisville Medicine! Please reach out to Kathryn Vance at kathryn.vance@glms.org if you’d like to share your thoughts in an upcoming issue.
