Jeremiah 36:32
So Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to the scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and as Jeremiah dictated, Baruch wrote on it all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.

What do you think when you read the Bible?  After Thomas Linacre read the Gospels for the first time, he commented, “Either these are not the gospels or we are not Christians.”  Simply reading them brought deep conviction.  I read about a famous actor who intentionally tears pages out of the Bibles in his hotel rooms because he disagrees with what the Bible teaches.

Even members of the same royal family responded differently to God’s word.  When King Josiah first heard Deuteronomy, he tore his clothes and turned to God.  When his son King Jehoiakim heard the scroll of Jeremiah’s prophecies, he cut the scroll and placed it in the fire.  In one generation, Israel’s leader went from submitting to God’s word to destroying it.  What did the prophet do when he heard his life-work was burned?  Jeremiah took a new scroll and began to dictate God’s word again.  His words constitute the book of Jeremiah in our Bibles today.

Today if we hear God’s voice in the scriptures, we have a choice to make.  Will we do what it says or ignore it?  We cannot finally escape it.  It is arrogant and ludicrous to try to destroy it.   Let us not harden our hearts today.  God’s words are sent to bring us life.  Taste and see.  The Lord and his word are good.

 Pray with me:
Speak to our hearts, Lord Jesus.  Speak that our souls may hear.  Speak to our hearts Lord Jesus.  Calm every doubt and fear.  In your holy name we pray.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
