Improving Employee Well-Being Through the Financial Stability First Model
The National Human Services Assembly (NHSA) is pleased to announce the release of a discussion brief on Financial Stability First (FS1), an NHSA initiative generously funded by MetLife Foundation. NHSA conducted a pilot project in three human service agencies to determine whether financial navigators in the workplace could be deployed to assist low-wage employees. The goal was to create a foundation of financial stability through outreach, education and access to a range of financial products and services. Outcomes showed the value of intentional organizational efforts to work with low-wage employees to increase their financial stability has positive effects and increased employee confidence, skills, and well-being. Challenge to NGOs Internationally
While nonprofits in the U.S. continue to enjoy a unique status, The New York Times and The Chronicle of Philanthropy cite a Carnegie Endowment report of crackdowns on nonprofits in China, Russia, India, Egypt and Hungary. The State Department and USAID have long engaged U.S. NGOs in exporting the third-sector concept to other countries. Is there a role for American organizations in standing up for the third sector not only at home but internationally? Would that strengthen the standing of the civic sector in the U.S.?

#TBT to May 1958
In honor of Mental Health Month, this is a throwback to 1958 in another comic from the NHSA archives. While we talk differently about it now and treatment has improved, this is a good reminder to avoid the stigma associated with mental illness and instead talk openly about it, increasing awareness.
