News You Can Use

Like many other NH retailers, we are closed to the public until May 4, at least, and we expect the Governor to announce new guidance on the stay-at-home order, extending it, later this week.  We've been blessed to have support from the SBA, from our vendors, and from our landlord, and we've been doing good and anxiety-reducing business in online and phone orders. Please keep sending orders our way.  They are our bridge to a post-COVID19 future.
Over 20% of our pre-pandemic revenues came from toys, games, greeting cards, and other gift items. Socks! Who ever thought we would sell so many socks? ... Anyway, we've added a new feature to our website to help you shop our cards, toys, and other non-book merchandise. Just go here. You can find the link on our website on your own, under "gifts and gift cards" in the navigation up top.  With Mother's Day coming up, and birthdays happening all the time, we hope you'll let us help you shop the best greeting card lines around. And the kids at home need these toys!
We're encouraging people to ship all new orders. If it's a time-sensitive request, we're allowing some curbside pickup, but in general, people should stay home and let us ship to them.  We've adjusted our 99-cent shipping offer to begin at $20--it had been at $10, but we were spending too much of a percentage on freight for that to be sustainable, we hope you'll understand.  We are happy to offer 99-cent shipping through this crisis, but that's us subsidizing the shipping, at a loss. If you can afford it, we encourage you to choose "media mail" ($3.50 for the first book, 50 cents for each additional book) when you check out.
We will resume regular curbside service as an intermediate phase when the crisis seems to be abating. Stay tuned.
Around the country, publisher and distributor warehouses have instituted new procedures to keep their workers safe. This necessarily means that deliveries are slower than we are used to. We urge everyone to put aside all notions of immediate gratification and accept the idea that good things are worth waiting for.  We're working to get your books to you ASAP.
If you can't think of a book to buy, try our gift cards, also available as online only gift codes. They'll still be good when this crisis is over. We need your continuing support.

Events are Going Virtual

We're closed to the public, so we can't do in-person author events. But it's still our mission to connect readers with writers, and the way we're doing that now is through virtual, online events. You can ask questions and otherwise interact with the authors during some online events, and you can buy signed books through our website. You can even watch a baking demonstration with authors Kathy Gunst and Katherine Alford!  Click the images below for more info and for ways to join the events online.  Check our events schedule often to learn about new virtual events coming up.

Other ways we're keeping in touch online

Our podcast, The Laydown, continues! Check out recent episodes here. We are also going to begin a new program called Brunch with a Bookseller. Gibson's booksellers will record unscripted Zoom sessions talking about what's new, what's hot, and what's just interesting in the world of books, with video available on our Facebook page. We're still working out the details, but have a look at our Facebook page around 10 AM on Thurs., April 30!
