| It's the MOST wonderful time of the year...
Back to School time!
We hope all of our Dragons had a fun and restful summer. We are so very excited to have our learning community back together. We also extend a very warm St. Michael's welcome to all of our brand new students, families, and faculty! It is an exciting time to be at St. Michael's!
This first weekly newsletter contains all of the info you need to get through the first week. Moving forward, please note that our "This Week @ St. Michael's" newsletter goes out every Sunday morning to help you prepare for the week ahead. Copies are posted as well on the St M website and social media.
A friendly reminder that our SCHOOL HOURS for all grades K-8 are 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Morning carpool opens at 7:45 a.m. Please note that Monday, August 26 is an early dismissal day. Free morning gym begins on Tuesday, August 28 from 7:20-7:45 a.m.

Schedule for Monday and Tuesday
Monday, August 26
LOWER SCHOOL: Half-Day of School
- 7:45 a.m.: Doors open, carpool drop-off begins (NO MORNING GYM)
- Dress code attire required
- Kindergarten families may drop off their children in the carpool loop at 7:45 a.m.
- If a Kindergarten family prefers to walk a child in on the first day, please ARRIVE at 8 a.m. for student safety to avoid carpool traffic, park in the East lot by the gym, and walk your child into class.
- Kindergarten first day walk-in arrivals should be in class no later than 8:15 a.m.
- 8 a.m.: School day begins, carpool ends
- 11 a.m.: Kindergarten early dismissal
- Noon: Grades K-5 early dismissal
- Extended Day open 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: ORIENTATION (Dress Code Attire Required)
7th and 8th Grade Orientation/Locker Set-Up: 8:15-9:15 a.m. for students AND parents
- PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 8 a.m. as Lower School carpool is underway. Please park in East (Gym) Lot or West (Green) Loop
- Advisory Group designations will be posted in the lobby of Singleton Hall.
- Drop school supplies in Advisory and proceed to the Great Hall
6th Grade Orientation: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
- NOTE: 6th Grade Parents should attend from 10 -11:15 a.m. AND 2:15-3 p.m.
- 6th graders should bring a BAGGED LUNCH and water bottle.
- Please wear shorts/pants, close-toed shoes/sneakers for outdoor orientation activities.
- Drop school supplies in Advisory and proceed to the Great Hall.
Tuesday, August 27: First Full Day of School (K-8)
- Free Morning Gym for all students: 7:20-7:45 a.m.

Doors Open/Carpool Drop-Off begins: 7:45 a.m

- School Day hours: 8 a.m.- 3 p.m.
- Extended Day open from 3 -6 p.m.

Show your DRAGON PRIDE on the First Day of School!
A rite of passage each year is the taking of first day of school photos. Show your DRAGON PRIDE by taking a photo of your child on the first day with the St. Michael's sign below and posting it on your social media with the hashtag #DragonPride2019. Or, email your photos to our Communications Office for posting.

| Carpool Line Maps
A lot of thought has gone into our carpool procedures. We do ask for your patience, support, and understanding as folks learn new patterns and routines.
To help our families learn the carpool routine for campus drop-off and pick-up, below please find a carpool map. Each family is assigned a carpool location by color with color assignments with car visor placards to be distributed at Orientation.
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CARPOOL PLACARDS are on your right passenger side VISOR.
CARPOOL Guidelines
- Always d r i v e S L O W L Y
- Always stop at the 4-way and 3-way intersections
- Always have your sun visor name placard visible (We’ll print you as many as you’d like.)
- Always go to your assigned loop, even if a student is absent
- Always pull up to the farthest cone
- Never pass another car (ALL carpool lanes are NO passing zones)
- Never be on the phone while in car line
- Please leave pets at home
Not sure where to go or unable to attend Orientation? Please park in the EAST LOT by the gym and come to the appropriate front office to receive your carpool location assignment and placard.

| Safety First
As part of our school safety protocols, all doors (including the front doors) of Hubbard Hall and Singleton Hall are locked during the school day.
Parents and visitors to the School will need to be buzzed in at the main office entrances by front office staff in each building and wear a visitor name tag. Security cameras are installed throughout the buildings. We want to reassure you that our number one priority is the safety and security of our students and employees.

| Pack a Lunch for the First Two Weeks of School
Our hot lunch program WILL NOT BEGIN until Monday, September 9, so be sure to pack lunches for your child until then.
Hot lunch registration will open late week of August 26. We will send out a separate email with full instructions regarding how to register so STAY TUNED!
NOTE:
- Lower School Families: Please have your child bring a snack and a water bottle every day, including half-days.

Register NOW for Extended Programs and Sports/Co-Curriculars at St M!
If you have not yet registered for afternoon Extended Day, please reach out to our Director Ashley Buffey ASAP as we are NEARING CAPACITY.
Don't forget to sign up for our Lower School and Middle School Co-Curricular and Sports programs. Activities are filling up!

| Join Our St M SpeakUp Richmond 5K Team!
With our daily focus on social-emotional learning and health and wellness, we invite our families to join our St. Michael's team as we run/walk in the SpeakUP Richmond 5k in support of the Cameron Gallagher Foundation.
- Race Info: Saturday, September 7 at 9 a.m. at Byrd Park. It is a FUN race meant for everyone (runners and walkers), with plenty of on-course surprises.
- Cost: $35.
- Sign up HERE to join our team (choose the "St. Michael's" team)
- Wear your St M gear or school colors!
Chris Gorman, our Board Chair & Team Captain, will be leading the charge this year! When you register online, please choose the "St. Michael's" team (no password is required). We hope to gather the team before the race by a sit-up bench on the edge of Byrd Park across from the Unitarian Church. Chris will be there with a St. Michael's flag to "flag" you down! If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Hansen.
This is a service opportunity that supports the wonderful work of the Cameron Gallagher Foundation. Later in September and early October, a representative from their foundation will be joining us in our Approaches to Learning and Life classes (ATT&L) in the Middle School. Other dates and programs offered will also be announced in the coming weeks!

Please note that we have been informed that Richmond City Police will have an increased presence around our campus monitoring posted 25 mile speed limits.
