You may be familiar with our admissions team through your application process, and now that you are here, our advisors look forward to meeting with you. UChicagoGRAD’s resources include career exploration and planning, fellowship advising, writing support, graduate life programs, and resources for international students. We hope to see you soon in our space on the 3rd floor of the Bookstore (970 E 58th St), or at the Graduate Student Lounge, upstairs on the 4th floor.

Planning to apply to PhD programs this fall? This workshop will demystify the PhD application process and provide strategies to make yourself more competitive. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to effectively communicate their interests, qualifications, and experiences through their application materials. Topics to be covered include: CVs, program selection, communicating with faculty, and the statement of purpose.

| National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship: Info Session

The National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship is a highly-competitive program that aims at increasing the number of US Citizens who receive doctoral degrees in science and engineering. This info session will discuss the application process, eligibility criteria, and common mistakes made by applicants.

| The Boren Fellowship: Language and Public Service

The Boren Fellowships seek to increase the study of geographic areas and languages which are critical to U.S. national interests, yet remain underrepresented in study abroad. These grants provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Both Master's and PhD students may apply. This workshop will cover each step in the Boren, from starting your application to critical deadlines.

Join Citadel researchers for a panel to discuss their paths to the firm and the type of research they do on their teams. Come with questions, as we'll tailor the event to your interests! Swag will be provided to all attendees. Afterward, apply to attend our PhD Networking Event at a venue off-campus. If you are confirmed to attend, round-trip Uber Vouchers will be provided. This event is only intended for PhD students.

| "Early Telephone, Efficiency, and Economism: A Wired New Urban Life by the Shanghai Telephone Company in the 1930s"

Featuring Zhang Yu's ongoing book project, tentatively titled "Wiring the Hearts: A Sentimental Media History of the Telephone in China." Employing an interdisciplinary framework drawing upon cultural studies, affective histories, and media/technology studies, it aims to construct a media history of the telephone in China, centering on “telephonic sentiments.”

ELI Writing Mentorship: Cultivating Sustainable Writing Habits
Apply by tomorrow (Friday, October 3) at 5:00 p.m.
Cultivating Sustainable Writing Habits is a year-long mentorship intended to provide ongoing academic writing support to a selective, interdisciplinary cohort of international/multilingual scholars throughout the full academic year. Participants receive active support both from their mentor and their peers to produce written work that has been carefully developed.
