May is Postpartum Depression Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness about maternal mental health and the resources available to help new parents cope with postpartum depression and other mental health challenges. Graziano Pinna, associate professor of psychiatry at UIC, can speak about discovering early predictors, or biomarkers, of PPD, including his recent research that found that levels of neuroactive steroids are elevated in those who develop first-onset depression early in pregnancy. He can also address breaking down the stigma of PPD and how to provide support for those who may be struggling.
