The Schoen Foundation has given $2.5M to elevate two important programs at Clemson. Founded by
Sharon Schoen and the late William “Bill” Schoen, The Schoen Foundation is now guided by their daughter, Karen Schoen Sutton, and the family. The Schoen Foundation is a multi-generational, family-led foundation committed to making a difference in education and veterans’ causes.

Their commitment will provide $1.25M of financial support to the Office of Military & Veteran Engagement, focusing on efforts to increase career readiness and mental health programming for Clemson’s veteran and military-connected students. An additional $1.25M will support student-athlete development, concentrating on enhancing leadership skills, networking opportunities and empowering confidence for Clemson female student-athletes.

The annual 5K run to support the ongoing research of “Call My Name,” which documents and shares the stories of African Americans in the University’s history, returns Sunday, March 9, from 8-10 a.m. Organized by Calhoun Lemon Professor of Literature Rhondda Robinson Thomas, runners will gather in the Carillon Garden before running a route that guides them past sites of significance for Black history at Clemson.

The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences (CBSHS) has developed an Embedded Faculty Scholar Program in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH), providing research support for SCDPH and offering CBSHS faculty members invaluable field experience and research opportunities. Inaugural Embedded Faculty Scholars include associate professor
Erin Ash and assistant professor
Brian Witrick.

The inaugural recipient of the award was Lilly Lippeatt, and it was created in honor of her brother Lance Corporal Noah Lippeatt, who passed away tragically in June of 2024. The award was presented during Clemson Gymnastics’ annual Military Appreciation Day meet, a tribute to those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces.
