Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to share that Jesse Ramírez will be joining San José State University as our new Director of New Student and Family Programs, effective May 4.
Jesse comes to us from California State University, Long Beach, where he most recently served as Director of New Student and Family Programs. In this role, he led a comprehensive portfolio that supports the transition of more than 12,000 new students each year and expands engagement opportunities for parents and families.
He brings nearly three decades of experience at CSULB, with a strong background in orientation, advising, and student success initiatives. Over the course of his career, Jesse has strengthened collaboration between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, redesigned orientation programs to improve student engagement, and developed training and assessment practices that support student success and retention. He also introduced a first-year student texting campaign and expanded programming for families to better support students as they transition to the university.
Jesse has a strong record of leading teams and managing complex operations. He has overseen professional and student staff, managed a department budget of over $1 million, and used assessment and data to guide program improvements. His experience also includes direct advising, outreach to prospective students and families, and the development of learning communities and peer mentor programs that promote connection and persistence.
Jesse holds a Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Student Development in Higher Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in History, both from California State University, Long Beach.
Please join me in welcoming Jesse to SJSU. We look forward to the impact he will have in supporting our students and their families.
