June Mama of the Month
Hello, ladies! My name is Amanda, mother of two - Scarlett (9) and Holden (5) and wife of Bill for the last 12 years and counting.
I am a Navy Brat - born in Guam and have lived in SoCal, Northern VA, FL and graduated from high school in Puerto Rico.  San Diego is where I lived the longest - 11 years.
Bill and I met in San Diego at a dive bar during my break from dating.  We married 10 months later.  We moved from San Diego to Virginia Beach in 2015 to be close to my parents (they live 1 mile away from us) as Scarlett was getting ready to start school and we wanted to establish our roots. Two days after we moved here, we found out I was pregnant with Holden.
Both of our children attend Saint Patrick Catholic School (Go Wolfhounds!) and LOVE it.  Holden loves all things sports and boy life - getting dirty, climbing on things, playing with bugs.  Scarlett is studious and loves to be a helper whenever she can.
Scarlett was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 7 years old.  I had never even heard of it before she was diagnosed.  If anyone ever has any questions about T1D or wants to ask me anything about our story or our experience— please feel free to reach out to me. I am an open book.  I love  when people express interest in learning how to identify signs of T1D as they are often overlooked or easily explained away until you know the basics and therefore can see the bigger picture.
Fun fact: both my kids are named after literary characters - Scarlett from "Gone with the Wind" and Holden from "Catcher in the Rye."
I joined F4M in Jan 2020.  HUGE shout out to Sofia Clark for bringing me into the Village.  She had been asking me for months to try a class with her - as I pressured her to have another glass of wine at Friday dinne - and she kept telling me she couldn’t because she had workout class at 8am the next morning. LOL.  I finally went to a class with her and really loved the sense of community between the women in class.  I became hooked when COVID hit.  I very much looked forward to Virtual Body Boost and having that solid hour to myself.  When I finally felt comfortable to go back in person, I started going to the mid-morning 9:15 class.  Then, all of a sudden my work schedule came secondary to my F4M schedule as I did not want to miss a 9:15 class or a 360 class….and don’t forget Run Club!  I ran a half marathon, you guys—like, WHAT?!  That was my very first Run cCub in January and now I am addicted!
This past fall my husband looked at me one day when I came home from class and said, “You’re really happy.  It looks good on you. I am glad you found this FIT4MOM thing….”  And he was right!
Huge thank you to Caitlin for creating this village and to the ladies I get to spend time with while burning calories!
