| New Algorithms Developed at Georgia Tech are Lunar Bound |
Georgia Tech’s Space Exploration and Analysis Laboratory (SEAL) has developed new algorithms that are headed to the Moon, as part of the Intuitive Machine’s IM-2 mission. The mission is sending a Nova-C class lunar lander named Athena to the Moon’s south pole region to test technologies and collect data that aim to enable future exploration. The mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative.

| Four AE Students Earn Patti Grace Smith Fellowships |
Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering (AE) students Khalil Harruna, Lauren Leitch, Marquel Ollivierre, and Mersimoy Regassa have been selected as Patti Grace Smith (PGS) Fellows. The four students are among 35 undergraduate students to receive the prestigious honor across the country. In addition to scholarships, these students will intern this summer at top aerospace companies around the nation. They will also receive personalized mentorship, networking opportunities, and career guidance.

New NASA-funded research by Georgia Tech offers fresh insights into the phenomenon of space weathering. Examining Apollo lunar samples at the nanoscale, Tech researchers have revealed risks to human space missions and the possible role of space weathering in forming some of the water on the moon.Â

Georgia Space Grant Consortium Visits the U.S. Capitol
|
The NASA Georgia Space Grant Consortium (GSGC) team, led by Stephen Ruffin, participated in the annual Space Grant meeting in Washington, D.C. While there, they also visited Georgia’s Senate and House Representative offices to highlight the program’s achievements during the 2023-2024 academic year.
AE undergraduate student Eric Goeke has contributed to two GSGC programs, The Science, Technology and Engineering Program, and the ML-Bots Program. Louisa Houser, a computer science undergraduate from Mercer University has worked on the ML-Bots Program and the National Eclipse Ballooning Project with affiliate director Anthony Choi.
