The National Health Care for the Homeless Council is proud to support the Unhoused Bill of Rights, introduced last week by Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO). This legislation calls for the right to universal health care and medical respite, among other reforms. Council CEO Bobby Watts spoke at the news conference held to announce the legislation.
"Like the other organizations represented here today, we share the mission of preventing and ending homelessness," said Watts. "We thank Congresswoman Bush and her hardworking staff for putting together legislation that moves us toward that mission. The National Health Care for the Homeless Council celebrates the introduction of this important bill, while also acknowledging we have a lot of work ahead of us to build an equitable society where no one is unhoused."

National Health Center Week 2021 HCH Day is August 9
| |
Each year, the National Association of Community Health Centers celebrates National Health Center Week to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America's health centers. This year's commemoration is August 8-14; the theme is "Community Health Centers -- The Chemistry for Strong Communities."
There are focus days throughout the week that shine a spotlight on a specific area of health center work. Monday, August 9, is Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) Day. Nationwide, health centers serve 1.3 million people experiencing homelessness each year, with approximately 1 million of them receiving care from the 300 health centers that receive HCH funding.

The topics in the Media Bureau are those where the Council's expertise has been commonly sought; however, they do not represent the full breadth of knowledge held by our staff and community. If you would like to suggest a topic or include your own expertise in the Media Bureau, please contact Terri Woodmore, Communications Manager.
