Celebrate the City of Vanport and Vanport College
Celebrate Portland State's origins as Vanport College, and its place in the rich history of Vanport. Thekick off eventfor the 8th Annual Vanport Mosaic Festival is on Thursday, May 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the PSU Vanport Building. The festival honors former residents, survivors, and descendants, and marks the 75th anniversary of the Vanport Flood.
Meet the finalists for the School of Public Health Dean
Four finalists for the School of Public Health Dean will visit PSU this month. The OHSU and PSU faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the Open Forums scheduled for the candidates:
Finalist A - Tuesday, May 16
Finalist B - Wednesday, May 24
Finalist C - Thursday, May 25
Finalist D - Friday, May 26
All Open Forums are from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Vanport Building, Room 515. CVs and feedback forms for each candidate will be available at the search committee’s webpage 24 hours before the candidate’s visit.
PSU Mainstage Kabuki: The Adventures Of High Priest Kôchi
Don't miss this world premiere kabuki performance, adapted from a bunraku puppet play, first presented and published in 1685. The PSU Center for Japanese Studies and the Department of World Languages and Literatures presents an epic tale of betrayal, murder, redemption, and epiphany — full of miracles and magic. Performed by PSU students in English, directed by Laurence Kominz, costumed by Toshimi Tanaka, and with a professional leading guest musician from Japan. Opening night includes a special guest performance by PSU Taiko Ensemble. May 25-28 at Lincoln Hall. Tickets available at the PSU Box Office.
PSU Choirs: Considering Matthew Shepard
Portland State University Choirs present the Portland premiere of the Grammy-nominated oratorio "Considering Matthew Shepard," by Craig Hella Johnson. This powerful work tells the story of a Wyoming college student whose 1998 killing caused a national uproar and led to the expansion of LGBTQ protections. This stunning work of musical fusion weaves traditional choral styles with folk, pop, and country to create a powerful, cathartic musical experience that lifts us from the depths of horror and despair to a place of hope. PSU Choirs perform "Considering Matthew Shepard" on Friday, May 19 and Sunday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Portland's First United Methodist Church.Tickets: $15 students and seniors; $25 general admission.
