Welcome to the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Thank you for confirming your commitment to join the NYU community and your program in Steinhardt. At NYU Steinhardt, we are united by a mission to advance the education, health, and well-being of people and communities around the world. We are incredibly excited to have you as part of our incoming class beginning in January 2024!
This fall during your Gap Semester, you will hear from your advisor and peer mentors through email, social media, and Zoom chats; they will help you prepare for spring registration. Your peer mentor is a current student who will serve as an additional resource and will be able to share their perspectives about the student experience, course selection, and registration process.
Your Gap Semester is a chance to chart your own course. Past cohorts have spent their time volunteering, learning a new language, taking a college course, traveling, and exploring individual passions such as music, arts, reading, writing, and participating in sports activity. Please let us know your plans for the fall in our
Gap Semester Survey before the end of August.
Please make sure your NYU email is activated as the Steinhardt Office of Student Affairs will be sending you regular emails as you begin your NYU Steinhardt journey. Additionally, you will receive communications from the
NYU Welcome team, who will be sending important information and reminders about upcoming deadlines, as well as hosting a variety of events and programs throughout the summer and fall to help your transition to NYU.
The following is a preview of the roadmap to get connected, be involved, and stay informed as you begin your NYU Steinhardt journey.
Summer
You will receive information regarding this year’s
NYU Reads selection,
How the Word is Passed by Clint Smith. We expect all incoming first year students to read this book and engage in discussion about it in their New Student Seminar in the spring. Get a head start by reading the book during your Gap Semester.
Fall
Orientation programming for all new students happens in our Online Orientation Portal. Beginning in October, you’ll learn more about your program of study and your class schedule for Spring 2024. You will hear from peer mentors who will help you navigate the registration process when you register for classes in November.
