In Case You Missed It

Spring Break

March 20 marks the beginning of the spring season and the start of a weeklong break for students. Whether you are staying close to home or venturing out, we have a fun, free lineup of academic and social activities as well as information for those who plan to travel.
Planning a staycation? We’ve got you covered. Students are invited to join in a series of free virtual and in-person events on campus during spring break. There are four tracks to choose from, including research, health and wellbeing, leadership and service. Whether you want to learn to surf, develop as a leader or take part in a community service project, there is something for everyone!
Already have your plane ticket booked for a spring break trip? We wish you a fun and restful week. Students who plan to travel over spring break can pick up two KN95 masks and one rapid antigen test at no cost from four campus locations. Please use these masks during your trip, conduct the rapid antigen test 24 to 48 hours before coming back to campus, then complete a PCR test on the day you return.
Contact Tracing and Case Investigation Cooperation
If you receive a positive COVID-19 test result through UC San Diego Health, you should expect to receive a phone call from the UC San Diego COVID Response Team. We ask all of our campus members to please take part in this important process to slow the spread of the virus and work collaboratively with our contact tracing team. Know that there is no judgment in these conversations, only a desire to effectively communicate with others who may be impacted and unaware. Learn more about exposure and contact tracing

Your Question Answered

Question: Why did I receive a red thumb on the symptom and exposure screener?
Answer: There are a handful of scenarios that can trigger a red thumb on the employee or student symptom screener. Read below and check if any of the following conditions apply to you.
  • You are currently experiencing symptoms.
  • You have recently tested positive for COVID-19.

  • You have not agreed to share your vaccination info in MyChart.
  • You are a student employee and used the employee screener.
    • All students, including student employees, should only fill out the student screener.
    • If you have not added your supervisor to your screener, you will need to re-register or update your screener.
  • You are not up to date with the vaccination/booster requirements and do not have an approved exception or deferral. See more on the Vaccination webpage
  • You are up to date with the booster requirement but have not recorded your booster information in MyChart. See more on the COVID-19 Vaccination Compliance webpage.
  • You are not up to date with the testing requirements.
    • Unvaccinated students and campus employees and those who have been vaccinated and are booster eligible but have not received a booster are required to test twice weekly unless they have had COVID-19 in the last 90 days. See more on the Testing and Screening webpage.
  • You have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days and UC San Diego has not been notified of your result.
    • If you are an employee and you have tested positive outside UC San Diego, please send your provider-administered test results, including date of birth, date of test, and full name to emp-test-sch-line@health.ucsd.edu. (Uploading to MyChart is insufficient–you must also notify UC San Diego).
