Richard Utz, professor and interim dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, presented his paper “Malevolent Memories? Anti-Semitic Medievalisms in Germany” at a conference titled “Engineering Imperial Memories.” The conference, sponsored by the University of Strasbourg, was co-organized by Dina Khapaeva (Modern Languages) and Nikolay Koposov (History and Sociology), both of whom are also guest professors at Strasbourg.

Cecilia Montes-Alcalá (Modern Languages) gave two invited talks at Berry College on “Spanglish-Spanish and English in Contact: Myths and Realities” and “Spanish-English Mixing in U.S. Latino Literature.” She was also a guest speaker in two courses.

Osvaldo Cleger (Modern Languages) presented his research on “The Voices of the Phonograph” and “Collective Narratives and Neo-Liberal Ethics in Two Online Communities of the Early 2000s” at the Northeast Modern Language Association Convention in Boston.

Jason Lindo (Economics) presented his paper, “Marriage and Cohabitation as Economic Safety Nets,” at an invited seminar at the University of Kentucky.

Regents' Professor Lisa Yaszek (Literature, Media, and Communication) delivered the keynote talk at Dublin FanCon 2024, where she spoke about the power of hopeful science fiction to connect us to the past and inspire better futures for all.
