January 8 Parkway Hills’ founding pastor, Rev. Bruce Taylor, joined with us in worship to celebrate being debt free and stepping into a new season within the life of our church. He shared with us the story of Moses and the burning bush reminding us of all the faithful steps it took to get Moses to that moment and all the faithful steps that had to follow to lead the people of God to a new place. He reminded us of all the faithful steps that brought Parkway Hills to this day and challenged us to boldly take our next faithful step as a church family.
Over the past month in worship, we looked at the faithful steps of others in scripture as we spent time discerning our individual next step as disciples of Jesus Christ in this time and place. I give thanks for those who have already spent time in prayer and discernment over how they will live out their discipleship as part of the Parkway Hills family. You have heard some of them share in worship! I invite those of you have not yet turned in your discipleship card, to continue to pray over where God is leading. What is one next step you can take to belong to the body of Christ, become more like Jesus, or bless the world? Can you take one step up in your giving? If you have never given to support your church, can you commit to $50 a week? If you have been a consistent, faithful giver, can you increase your giving by $5, $10, $20 or more?
Two weeks from today we will gather to participate in Ash Wednesday and we begin our steps into Lent. Lent is a season where we are asked to clear out the clutter to make room for Jesus, so what better time to commit to the work of discipleship and lay out your plan for your next faithful step. We invite everyone to turn in their discipleship card by the first Sunday in Lent, Sunday, February 26, and commit to their call as a disciple of Jesus Christ to belong, become, bless. We will continue to have cards in worship and you may also access our card online. As Easter approaches, we will reach back out to see how you are doing in living out your commitment and ask how we might help. Let us all take our next faithful steps together!
