Greetings and a Note from the RE Committee:
We wanted to send a note to introduce our committee, let you know a little about us and our purpose, and celebrate the care, time, and effort so many of us here at First Unitarian put into nurturing the children and youth in the Learning Community.
What is the RE Committee? We are a group of volunteers who work with Rev. Leah Ongiri, our Acting Director of Lifespan Faith Formation, behind the scenes to support the Religious Education program. You’ll see us sitting at the welcome desk each week in Buchan. Some of us manage the Resource Room, RE Library, and Little Free Library. We send birthday cards to children and youth and stock the activity bags that are available in the service. We assist with planning and staffing special events and offer input on RE programming decisions.
Is Rev. Leah the only RE staff member now? Yes! You may have noticed the absence of an RE program assistant this year. The RE committee members and other volunteers are pitching in to assist with administrative duties like data entry, monitoring supply needs, and other tasks. You can help too by giving Rev. Leah as much advance notice as possible when making requests. She loves connecting with all of us, and with extra time, she can often reach out to one of us for support!
The program year is off to an energizing start. We loved listening to pop songs emanating from Eliot Chapel in September, watching the kindergartners and first graders return with treasures from their tree walk, and hearing how the elementary, middle school, and youth classes are creating their covenants. We’re excited for the upcoming Halloween and gingerbread-building parties and the OWL Season which will begin for 4th-9th graders (and adults!) in February.
Thank you for all that you are doing to build our beloved Learning Community.
Sincerely,
Martha Jones, Anne Draper, Maggie Quintana, Lee Spiker, Sue Bickerstaff, Katy McKinney-Bock, and Mindy Clark
