| Successful Film Series, Encore Set for Six Guys, 6,000 Miles
Our Museum of disABILITY History and Film and Speaker series featured, Six Guys, 6,000 Miles, to two sold-out showings! Attendees walked the red carpet and posed with the documentary’s stars during the event on August 12 at The Screening Room in Amherst. The film chronicles a one-of-a-kind cross-country trip taken by four participants in People Inc.’s Guys Group, and two life quality coaches.
If you missed the event or would like to see the film again, an encore presentation will be held on Friday, August 26, at 6 p.m. at the Museum of disABILITY History, 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. | Book Launch: The Story of Camp Cornplanter
As part of our Dialogues on disABILITY Speaker Series, People Inc. Associate Vice President David Mack-Hardiman will present and launch our latest book published by our Museum, “The Magic Fire: The Story of Camp Cornplanter,” on Friday, September 9, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., at the Museum of disABILITY History, 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. A Q&A will be held, along with a chance to share memories from the camp.
Located in the Allegheny Forest of northwest Pennsylvania, Camp Cornplanter provided opportunities for individuals with disabilities to attend a summer camp. As the first residential camp in North America, it was like an oasis in the era of institutional care.
The event costs are: $6 for adults, $3.50 for students, seniors and human service employees and free for Museum members. To register or for more information, call 716.629.3626.

| How to Plan Events Everyone can Attend
Are you hosting events, conferences and meetings that are accessible to all? Could your attendance increase by promoting it as an accessible event? Learn how to make your events more accessible with this free training session that we are pleased to co-host, “How to Plan Events Everyone Can Attend,” on Monday, September 26. As part of Arts Services Initiative of WNY’s free professional development Series, the event will be held at our Museum from 6 to 8 p.m., registration at 5:30 p.m., at 3826 Main Street, Buffalo. The workshop will provide tips on planning meetings, conferences and other events in which everyone can participate. Even when you may not know in advance whether any of your participants may need accommodations, it is best to be prepared. Complimentary tours of our Museum are included.

| Exhibit Provides New Perspectives
We’re looking for organizations and businesses to help spread the word about our “In Celebration of Down Syndrome” exhibit at the Museum of disABILITY History. The exhibit provides new perspectives as it recognizes individuals who have Down syndrome by highlighting medical history, myths and facts, as well as success stories and popular culture. If you provide complimentary advertising space in your newsletter, we will provide a camera-ready ad. | Community Event: Step Up for Down Syndrome
The Down Syndrome Parents Group of Western New York will host its 9th annual awareness walk. The walk will be one mile around Harbor Center in celebration of National Down Syndrome Awareness month. Festivities include: Music from Strictly Hip, photo booth and activities for children.
When: Saturday, October 1, from 11a.m. to 2 p.m.
