Keeping Toros Informed

To keep the CSUDH community up to date with the latest news and developments regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the fall semester and campus operations, this newsletter will be providing routine updates throughout the crisis.

COVID-19 Self-Screening App for Students

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, all students who have in-person classes will be required to complete a daily COVID-19 symptom self-screening prior to coming onto any university property. In addition, university housing students will be required to self-screen at the beginning of each day.

To make the self-screening as convenient as possible, the university has added the screening tool to the iToros Mobile app (available on iOS and Android mobile devices). The self-screening module asks users to complete a series of health questions that help evaluate if the user has symptoms commonly identified with COVID-19 and whether the user may visit campus.

Enjoy a Responsible Labor Day

Monday, September 7, is Labor Day, a campus holiday. We hope everyone enjoys the three-day weekend, but please do so responsibly. Continue to follow all current health guidelines. In particular, please refrain from large gatherings, which have already led to COVID-19 outbreaks in many colleges that have opened this fall.

Let’s all do our part to keep ourselves and our communities healthy and safe.

Interactive Maps

Campus Maps

An interactive version of the campus map is now available. This interactive application allows users to zoom, pan, and search campus features. The map highlights open buildings, recommended routes from buildings to parking lots, in-person classrooms for fall 2020, and where to find hand sanitizer stations. Data layers may be turned off or on by selecting the checkbox in the Layer List menu in the upper right-hand corner. Many of the map features have additional information that is accessible by clicking the individual item of interest.

COVID-19 Testing Site Map

The university also has created a useful interactive COVID-19 testing site map that shows the locations of PCR-based COVID-19 testing sites in in Los Angeles and Orange Counties and whether they are drive-thru or walk-in, and if appointments are needed.

Student Code of Conduct

Last week, an email was sent to students reminding them that the CSUDH Student Conduct Code applies even during a primarily virtual semester. Students are expected to maintain these standards when interacting online or in person, and to adhere to safety protocols during campus visits.

Campus Budget Strategy

Due to COVID-related shortfalls, CSUDH will be taking a variety of measures to balance its budget over the next few years. This week, the university announced one such strategy: the Early Exit Program (EEP). It is a one-time, voluntary program aimed at reducing the size of our workforce and minimizing the need for layoffs. To qualify for the program, employees must be retirement-eligible and have at least 10 years of CalPERS service.

Securing Zoom Meetings

It is important to consider the security implications of the Zoom meetings that you set up or attend. Participants may share sensitive data and if you are recording the meetings, the data will be stored. Preventing uninvited guests from joining and sharing the recording via Dropbox will help keep your meeting secure.

Starting September 27, 2020, Zoom will require that all meetings have a Passcode or Waiting Room enabled. More details are available on the Zoom Help Center.
