Dear Faculty, Administrators and Staff,
Earlier this month, the BIG EAST Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium brought together the 11 BIG EAST Conference institutions in a competition of the minds, where judges from the member institutions examined the student research poster presentations on a variety of academic metrics. This year, Sanskruti Brahmbhatt, an undergraduate student researcher under the mentorship of Marius Pelmus, Ph.D., received 5th place out of 55 projects for her research entitled, “Halogenated Phthalocyanines: Photoactivity and Interactions with Gold Surfaces.” Congratulations to Sanskruti and Dr. Pelmus!
As part of our continued support for student research, I would like to highlight another exciting opportunity for student scholars of all disciplines to showcase their research at the Annual Conference of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 11, 2025. We will support a select number of student researchers with a Student Travel Award to present their poster at the conference.
The MSCHE Conference is attended by the leadership of colleges and universities across the region. While the conference focuses on current topics in higher education, the student poster session invites students across all disciplines to present their research findings to leaders in academia. To apply for the award, students should complete a brief application by May 1, 2025. Research topics may relate to the conference theme, "Guiding for Good: Leading through Change" or any topic related to the student's field of study. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate research excellence at Seton Hall, particularly those nearing completion or previously presented at other venues.

Please encourage your students to apply!

| Celebrating Our History: Charter Day |
Our annual Charter Day celebration is just two weeks away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 3 p.m. in the University Center. This special day honors Seton Hall’s founding, our Catholic mission and the legacy of our patroness, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, whose resilience and life continues to inspire us in so many ways. During the commemoration, we will recognize distinguished members of our community with the Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid Medal for Distinguished Service, the President’s Award for Student Service and honor our Servant Leader Scholars. And, to help bring Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s story to life, we’ll also welcome keynote speaker Catherine O’Donnell, Ph.D., author of Elizabeth Ann Seton: American Saint. The Natural, Supernatural, and Lonergan Explored in Catholic Debate Text
Professor Jonathan Heaps published a new book called The Ambiguity of Being (Catholic University of America Press, 2024). Heaps explores the Catholic theological debate between the natural and the supernatural - as juxtaposed with Bernard Lonergan’s philosophical and theological contributions on the topic. The book offers a modern take for the current world and its complex political and cultural landscape.
