This evening, I received the sad news that Dave Keister died today. He was a Michigan native who started his broadcasting journey in Hillsdale, Michigan. After that, he built his first radio station at age 24: 250 watt WCBK (AM) in Martinsville. Mr. Keister signed it on nearly 53 years ago: April 18, 1967 (hear audio from that day). He owned Mid-America Radio Group. Mid-America owned and operated over 30 AM and FM radio stations throughout Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan.
In 2012, the Indiana Broadcasters Association inducted him into their Pioneer Hall of Fame. The next year, Mr. Keister received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the IBA.
When I know more, I will send out another IRW. If you have a remembrance of Dave or you have additional information about him, please let me know. I'll print selected remembrances in an upcoming IRW.
That's all for this issue. Thank you for your continued support.
