As we wrap up the Fall 2023 semester, the Office of Student Veterans is excited to continue assisting and supporting the current student population!  We also want to congratulate those who are graduating this semester and wish you all the best as you progress through the next chapter of life!
If you are graduating, please see the details below on receiving your graduation cord.
With the holidays fast approaching, we want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to seeing everyone at the start of the next semester, and the beginning of the new year!

Graduation Cords

If you are graduating and would like to request a graduation cord, please email the Office of Student Veterans. Remote students can send us an address where you would like your cords mailed. For local students, we will work with you to coordinate a time on campus to give you your cords. 

Job Posting - Graduate Assistantship with the Office of Student Veterans

Do you enjoy being a part of this military-affiliated community and want to help it grow and prosper? Consider applying to work for the Office of Student Veterans
Work in cooperation with the Dean of Students Office staff to create, execute, and support programs and services for military-affiliated students enrolled at Duke University. Using the OSV's three pillars, the graduate assistant will assist fellow military-affiliated students by advocating for them university-wide, creating community-building opportunities, and connecting them to resources that can make their time at Duke a great and memorable one! 
This position requires in-person hours during business hours and some nights and weekends. If you are interested, please email us with an attached resume. We look forward to hearing from you all and are excited to add another member to our team!
DAFA 5K pre-race meeting

DAFA Veterans Day 5K

Offering a HUGE shout-out to DAFA & Fuqua Fit 5K event last month on Veterans Day. They had over 90 registrants who participated. Everyone had an amazing time on the crisp, November morning. 
Thanks to everyone who came out to participate and support, and the committee hopes to see everyone again next year!

The VA Education Benefits Coordinator in the Office of the University Registrar is happy to assist you with any questions regarding:
  • GI Bill
  • Yellow Ribbon
  • Chapter 31 Benefits
  • Chapter 35 Benefits
  • Tuition Assistance
  • VA Benefits
  • and anything else 
Whenever you have questions, please reach out via email (veteranseducation@duke.edu), and they will respond as quickly as possible.

GI Bill Tutoring Benefit

Students can receive tutoring as a GI bill benefit if the student is: 
  • Enrolled in an educational program for half-time or more,
  • Are using the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), or the Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35) benefit,
  • Having trouble in a required subject and needs a tutor.
Students can be reimbursed by the GI Bill for up to $100 a month and a total of $1,200.

The course instructor (or teacher) must agree the student needs a tutor and write a letter on their behalf.

VA Scholarships for Students in the Medical/Healthcare Field

VA offers scholarships to students looking to work in a VA healthcare facility, serving our Nation’s Veterans. 
These scholarships cover many degrees and certifications and can help benefits reach through to program completion.
