January Volunteering
It's a New Year to Volunteer!
Happy New Year, Volunteers!

2019 is finally here and we're so excited to get this party started!  We have new opportunities with Groundwork Somerville, along with tried and true opportunities with FoodLink in the community and at the Somerville Winter Farmers Market.

As always, to sign up for a volunteer shift this month and receive a month of free Garbage to Garden service, RSVP by email, and we will help answer any questions you may have. Remember, events are first come, first serve.

Happy Composting!
The Garbage to Garden Team

Groundwork Somerville
This January, the annual Somerville Maple Syrup Project returns for its 16th season, beginning with a local maple tree tapping, and culminating in the annual Maple Syrup Boil Down Festival on March 16th at Groundwork Somerville’s urban farm at 138 South Street, Somerville, MA.
A series of maple-related events will lead up to the Boil Down event, with plenty of opportunities to get closely involved in the tapping and syruping process right here in Somerville. Each year over 1000 community members participate in the maple events, including over 500 Somerville students.

Maple Syrup Project Educators:
Start the last week of January
Teach two back-to-back classes (about 1.5 hours total) of curriculum one day a week for four consecutive weeks.
Lead Maple Sugaring themed lessons related to Math, Science, Literature and Social Studies in Somerville Public School 2nd grade classrooms.
Attend training where the curriculum and teaching materials will be provided
Email Jackie for more information!

Maple Syrup Project Sap Collectors:
Collect sap from the Maple trees located on Tufts Campus
If you are looking for an excuse to get outside, learn something new, or volunteer in your community, then this is the opportunity for you! No prior experience required!
We ask that you are able to provide your own mode of transportation and a willingness to carry potentially heavy buckets.
Volunteer with Food Link!

Food Link is looking for volunteers to help on a regular basis with the collection and distribution of donated food. Volunteers generally work in groups to collect food from grocery stores and bakeries, sort the food and then deliver it to social services agencies in the area.
Volunteer with us @ the Farmers' Market!
