LETTER FROM THE BOARD
HELLO OWNERS!
Election season is upon us. Please consider being one of the seven directors comprising your Chico Natural Foods Cooperative’s Board of Directors. Either person from an ownership household, current for at least six months, is eligible for candidacy. This year the Co-op is seeking candidates to fill three directorship positions on the board.
As directors, we regularly attend board and committee meetings held most months throughout the year. A full term of service is three years. Newly elected directors are seated at the Board of Directors’ first meeting in the new year. There is a longstanding tradition of scheduling the board meetings to start at 5:30 on the last Wednesday of the month.
WHAT YOU STAND TO GAIN IF ELECTED
In addition to a store discount, directors can expect the experience of working with a group of dedicated individuals who care about this Co-op, participate in the governance process, and approve major next steps.

As director my first term began almost 30 years ago and the experience makes for a memorable story of decisions and processes that have affected the Co-op’s progress over this time. Since before my first year as a director the store has been operating from the current location.
During the past 12 months the Board has been overseeing the search for a larger site to relocate the store. The Co-op is continuing to build on the discoveries and accomplishments that have been made to secure a more spacious store.

THE NEXT THREE YEARS WILL CERTAINLY BE A CRUCIAL PERIOD FOR OUR CO-OP.
Newly elected directors are provided orientation meetings to learn about how the board functions and the way directors relate to the larger organization that is the Co-op. Any hours a director may work in excess of a ten hour average per month can be applied to receiving a discount after the director is no longer serving on the board.

THE APPLICATION FOR BOARD OF DIRECTOR CANDIDATES
contains five open ended questions. It can be found at the Chico Natural Foods Co-op website by clicking on Board of Directors, and finding the APPLICATION FOR NOMINATION. Your answers will become your candidate statement for the election. If you can volunteer, please take a look at this information and the application questions with openness to the possibility of rewarding yourself and the Co-op with your involvement.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: 9.30.16

CREEK CLEANUP
BIDWELL PARK & CHICO CREEK CLEANUP
The Butte Environmental Council’s annual creek and park cleanup will be taking place on September 17! Every year, a wide-ranging group of dedicated volunteers cleans the garbage out of our town’s beloved public places. Last year, Co-op staff and family members worked together to clean the area around Comanche Creek (we pulled an entire abandoned boat out of there!). This year, the Co-op wants to offer a little something extra to encourage our owners to take part in this fantastic event. The first ten owners to let us know they’ll be joining the Co-op in cleaning the creeks will receive a free Co-op t-shirt when they arrive at check-in on the 17th.
ALL OWNERS WHO VOLUNTEER WITH THE CO-OP WILL RECEIVE A MONTH-LONG DISCOUNT AT THE CO-OP!
And, even if we run out of free t-shirts, we want to recognize and reward everyone who joins us in keeping the town clean. All active owners who volunteer with CNFC will receive an additional 5% discount on all (non-alcohol) purchases at the Co-op for a month after the cleanup (yes, you still get this extra discount even if you’re one of the early birds who get a t-shirt).

SIGN UP TO CLEAN THE CREEKS WITH THE CO-OP!
Let our Ownership and Outreach Coordinator, Joey, know that you want to volunteer with the Co-op this year. Joey can be reached in a few different ways:
E-mail: jhaney@chiconaturalfoods.coop
Phone: 1-530-891-1713 ext. 110
Facebook: Send a message to the Co-op’s Facebook page!
In-store: Leave a note for Joey in-store at the Co-op!
The Bidwell Park & Chico Creeks Cleanup will take place on Saturday, September 17, from 9am -12pm. Volunteer check in at 10th and Salem the Annie K Bidwell Parlor.
