House of Rooibos has become somewhat of an institution in Clanwilliam. With the start of the lockdown in South Africa, they had to close their doors due to strict regulations which prohibited the shop from trading. In this newsletter, we bring good news regarding their reopening!
Many people suffer from burnouts during this lockdown period. There are several factors, according to experts, that are causing a rise in the number of people suffering from this condition. However, Rooibos can be put to good use in the prevention of burnouts. | According to Martin Bergh, the Managing Director of Rooibos Limited, this year’s Rooibos harvest was more or less the same as that of 2019. However, he noted that this was still around 3 000 tons less than what was estimated for the 2020 harvest.
This can be attributed to the fact that South Africa is still facing droughts and low rainfall in many parts of the country, including the Cederberg region, the heart of Rooibos production.
Martin Bergh also said that the lockdown has had an impact on the Rooibos industry. Clients are hesitant to enter contractual relationships as the future is uncertain. Other than that, exports are slower than usual, because harbours are not running at full capacity.
Rooibos Limited is, however, optimistic that the situation will change for the better. Right now, the world’s focus is on fighting the spread of COVID-19 and rightly so. When this all passes, and it shall, Rooibos Limited will be ready to supply the world nature’s gift.

| Burnouts have become a prevalent part of many people’s lives in our society. It might be due to the fact that the world operates at an immense pace and many people are under a lot of pressure at work. During lockdown, many people are under even more pressure as their financial security might be threatened. Even for those that are lucky enough to still have job security, it seems that employers are expecting a higher level of productivity from staff working from home.
All this leads to a higher chance of burnout. When this happens, people cannot function at all and feel entirely depleted. Rooibos tea can help you to combat the onset of burnouts! Many studies suggest that herbal teas, like Rooibos, can help to lower cortisol levels, increase the production of mood-enhancing hormones like GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) and dopamine, thereby helping you to feel calmer and less anxious.
In fact, Rooibos has been described as the best herbal tea in the world. It is caffeine-free and full of antioxidants. Rooibos tea has a calming effect on those who consume it, making it a fantastic preventative measure against burnouts and adrenal fatigue.

| Those that are living with diabetes will know that the disease forces one to keep track of what you eat, how much you eat of it and which items you should steer clear from entirely. The Heart and Stroke Foundation recommends that those suffering from diabetes drink only zero- or low-calorie drinks, in order to keep blood sugar levels stable.
Based on that recommendation, Healthline has suggested that diabetes patients consider drinking Rooibos tea, instead of sugary drinks. Rooibos tea contains no calories and has no added sugars. The beauty is, the tea is naturally sweet!
Other than that, Rooibos tea can help to lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels, which tend to be higher in diabetes patients in general. Keep in mind that Rooibos can be enjoyed hot or cold, making it ideal no matter which season or time of day you might feel like some nourishment.
