Social Comparisons and How to Avoid Them

Social comparison is exactly what the name suggests––the act of comparing yourself to those around you––and while it can be a useful tool for self-motivation in small doses, it can also have harmful results that outweigh the benefits. Unhealthy social comparisons are a common side effect of social media use, but it is also an easy habit to fall into when attending a prestigious institution like UChicago. If you ever feel your self-esteem falling because of social comparisons, remember that everyone’s journeys are different; just because you may feel behind your peers in some way, that does not necessarily mean that that is the truth. You got this!

The mission of the University of Chicago Student Recovery Group is to provide fellowship and support for University of Chicago students who are exploring sobriety or in recovery from alcohol or other drugs.
The University of Chicago Student Recovery Group holds peer-to-peer discussion meetings to provide fellowship and community for students in recovery.
Spring Quarter meetings will be held on Thursdays from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Student Wellness Center (840 E. 59th St.).

Art Therapy Open Studio is a self-directed community space for people to spend time doing creative activities they enjoy, such as writing and art-making, while also being able to socialize or take a breather.
Open studio allows individuals to express their feelings and thoughts through a creative and therapeutic process because sometimes words are not enough. Join every Thursday, from 2:00 – 4:30 PM at the Student Wellness Center Room 1058 B.

Spring Quarter Let's Talk will be held from March 18 until May 31 with NO sessions on May 24 and May 27 due to the Memorial Day holiday. Let’s Talk’s sessions are drop-in and first-come, first-served format. The sessions of Let's Talk will be held in person.
